The Riverbank High athletic programs will be following the direction of new Athletic Director Jason Herrera and the first year A.D. is excited about the wonderful opportunity that has presented itself.

"Getting the position has been a thrill," Herrera said. "Just going to Riverbank High as a student athlete and coaching in the basketball program for the last three years, I have always been involved with the program.

"I'm a big sports guy, so I was excited to get the A.D. job."

Herrera will take over a position that Karen Adams has handled for more than a decade and the transition that Herrera is looking to make, as smoothly as possible, has taken and will take a great deal of assistance from Adams.

In what has been an almost overwhelming experience to open up the school year, Herrera has already leaned on Adams for guidance and assistance through the opening stages of his new career.

"There is a little bit of pressure," Herrera said of following Adams. "She really became a pro. She has been great for me, as soon as she heard I got the position we met for about three or four hours and she just went over everything to make the transition a smooth process.

"Even when I've come across something I'm not familiar with I've called her and every time she's answered my question."

Herrera could not have picked a brighter time to grab the reins of the Bruin sports programs, sitting in his new position just as Riverbank High is making a drastic face lift to its athletic facilities.
