Like the boys' teams, the Bruin girls defeated Hughson and Livingston in varsity basketball in Tuesday and Thursday's games, but came up a few points short against Patterson in Saturday evening's game in the Riverbank gym.

The Bruins defeated Hughson, 50-44, in an away match, beat Livingston, 58-40, at home, and yielded to Patterson with a score of 52-50.

Janet Moya led the rout of Hughson with a high of 19 points although Courtney Brock was not far behind, with 16. Monica Cardenas, Chelsi Walls and Julissa Perez all posted four points each, while Julissa Perez chipped in with three points.

Riverbank won the first quarter by 13-10, lost the second with a score of 15-10, and lost again in the third with a 10-9 score. The team then bounced back in the final period with a 18-9 score to grab the victory.

Naranjo scored Riverbank's only 3-pointer. The Bruins were successful in 11 out of 17 tries at the foul line.

In their 58-40 win over Livingston, the girls came out very cold and lost the opening quarter at 10-4. In an impressive reversal, however, they overwhelmed Livingston, 24-6, in the second period, tied the third quarter at 13-13, and cemented the win with a 17-11 final quarter.

This time, Monica Cardenas was the top shooter with 17 points. Naranajo posted 15 points, and Moya, 14. Nicole Fatone and Brock each scored five points, and Perez notched in two.

Cardenas hit two shots from the outside, and Naranjo, one. Coming a full 30 times to the free throw line, the Bruins were accurate on 17 of their pitches.

In the final game against Patterson, the Bruins led at the start by 13-10, tied the second period at 15-15, and won the third quarter decisively with a score of 10-6. But then Patterson went on a 21-12 tearaway to take the game in the final quarter.

Naranjo was the high point scorer on this occasion, with 14 points. Moya hit 12 points; Cardenas, eight; Walls, seven; Brock, six; and Perez, three.

With a hot hand for the night, Naranjo hit four of Riverbank's five 3-pointers. Wells had the other outside shot.

At the free throw line, the Bruins nailed 11 out of their 17 shots.

Now 7-10 overall, the girls played Ripon on Monday. They will face Patterson away on Thursday, and then return home to take on Ripon Christian next Monday.
