Riverbank golfers lost 155-179 to West while playing on the Bruins home course in Escalon on Aug. 31.

Their second match of the week also brought a loss by 280-215 to Sierra at Manteca on Friday.

Against West. Ashlyn Reed shot a 41; Laura Coker, 42; Karina Vizcaino, 47; and Katie Gettling, 49.

"We've got three girls who played regularly last year. So we have a little more experience than usual," said Bruin coach John Bartlett, who remains as optimistic as ever he will someday have a team that is not mainly first timers.

For this season, he also has 12 girls out, more than usual and the luxury of choice for match contenders.

Facing Sierra later in the week, Reed and Coker both shot a 66; Karina Gibson, 73; and Brooke Dougherty, a 75.

"The course at Manteca is fairly long, while we are used to the short Escalon course," said Bartlett by way of explanation.

The Fall Pro-Am, which pairs Riverbank students and teachers on teams in friendly competition, has been postponed from Wednesday to Sept. 13.

So the only match this week is on Thursday, away, to Calaveras.

Reed, Coker and Vizcaino are seniors and returnees from last year's starters. Gettling is also a senior who played last year, but not among the top five.

Dougherty is a freshman who played for the first time against West, doing very well to place against Sierra, Bartlett noted.
