As Caddies

Two Riverbank High School golf team members will be caddying for professional golfers on Thursday and Friday.

Leading Bruin golfers Nick Hernandez and Patrick Dean will caddy for the Canadian Pro Golf Tour playing at the Del Rio Country Club.

"It's a big tour. The club needed around 130 caddies, and sent out an appeal to the high schools," said Bruin coach John Bartlett. "I figured these two know the game well enough to caddy for the pros."

In matches against other high schools, the Bruins lost "pretty badly" to Hilmar and Ripon on Monday in a double match moved forward from Thursday.

The Bruins lost, 223-276, to Hilmar, Dean hitting a 47; Hernandez, 52; Bos, 59; Jose Jimenez, 59; and Erik Claros, 59. In the 196-276 loss to Ripon, Dean carded a 47; Hernandez, 52; Bos, 59; Jimenez, 59; and Claros, 59.

But Riverbank lost only by six strokes, 212-218, to Hughson on Tuesday.

Hernandez hit a 36; Dean, 40; Randy Franco, 51; Bos, 44; and Claros, 47, in the match at River Oaks.

Then, in the Edison Tournament on Wednesday, two Bruin golfers placed among the top 10 as individuals.

Hernandez scored a second place with 78 over 18 holes, and Bos shot a 91 to take 10th place.

The event included 17 high schools. The top three teams, led by Ripon Christian, and the top 10 individual players, won medals.

Played at the Lions Course in Modesto, the event is organized each year by Edison High School.

This week, the Bruins were scheduled to play Escalon at the Oakdale Country Club on Tuesday. The Thursday match against Hilmar will be postponed so Hernandez and Dean can caddy for the pros.
