Riverbank’s celebration of their return to the home field on Friday night was thwarted by a Modesto Christian team that just rolled over the host Bruins. The culmination of the weeklong celebration, the Homecoming Game, resulted in a thorough thrashing of the home team, falling to the tough Modesto Christian Crusaders by a 63-0 final.

The Riverbank varsity squad put up a valiant fight, but in the end, could not withstand the bigger, faster, stronger efforts of the visitors.

There were high points to the Bruins’ offense and defense, with well-executed plays but not enough to reach the scoreboard. Modesto Christian played a solid preseason campaign and continued their winning ways on Friday.

The JV team was able to score first in their contest, but they, too, came out on the short end on the scoreboard, ultimately losing by a 28-14 shortfall.

The football game capped a very busy week for the Bruins, with the Homecoming festivities ranging from the Powder Puff game to the crowning of new royalty, lunchtime events on the RHS campus to the downtown parade on Friday afternoon.

The Trans-Valley League schedule gets no easier; the Bruins travel to Ripon to face the Indians on Oct. 17.

SOCCER

In a 7-1 trouncing of the Hughson Huskies in Trans-Valley League varsity soccer action, it was a hard hitting game at home for the host Bruins. They came out on the right side of the score and took the win but Riverbank got its last four goals via penalty kick, as the Hughson players were consistently carded. The game featured multiple cards on both sides, though Riverbank was able to take advantage of their opportunities. Rodrigo Quintero had the hat trick, notching three goals on the afternoon, with single tallies from Adrian Benitez, Victor Rosas, Edgar Garcia and Edson Duran. Quintero and Garcia each added an assist as well.

The rough and tumble match was played at Riverbank on Thursday, Oct. 9. The Bruins were to travel to Hilmar on Tuesday, and host Escalon on Thursday this week, Oct. 16.

The JV soccer boys traveled to Mountain House on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and came away with a 4-1 victory in their only game of the week.

VOLLEYBALL

On the volleyball court, the Riverbank varsity Lady Bruins put some excitement into Homecoming Week, recording a three-game sweep in their contest against the Modesto Christian Lady Crusaders.

Riverbank started out consistently, putting some points on the board before allowing Modesto Christian to climb back in with some runs of their own. However, the Lady Bruins kept their composure and were able to put the 3-0 win on the books, posting scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-16.

The teams, varsity and JV, were scheduled to host Hughson on Monday, Oct. 13, then travel to Hilmar on Wednesday, Oct. 15 before returning home to host Escalon on Monday, Oct. 20.
