They only had one game on the schedule in the short week before Spring Break, but the varsity Lady Bruins made the most of it.

They hosted the Hilmar Yellowjackets in a Trans-Valley League match on Tuesday, April 15 and came away with a hard-fought 9-7 victory.

Up 9-4 after six innings, the Lady Bruins had to withstand a furious Hilmar comeback attempt, shutting them down after the scored three runs in the seventh to preserve the win.

Hilmar had seven runs on 17 hits and committed two errors. Riverbank had nine runs on 10 hits with one error.

The home team took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, added a single run in the second and two more in the third. They added to the lead with a three-run fifth inning, then added an insurance run in the sixth.

Jenny Verdin had two hits, including a home run, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice to lead the squad. Brittany Cody had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, Joslyn Beliera had a double and scored twice.

One run batted in came from Toni Adams (two hits), Alyssa Michelson and Briana Allen (double).

Allen was the winning pitcher, striking out four and giving up six walks over seven innings.

The girls are off for the spring break week but will be back in action at Ripon for a league game on Tuesday, April 29.
