Both Riverbank girls and boys varsity basketball teams were victorious at home this past week as Trans-Valley League play continued.

For the Bruin boys, it was an eight-point victory, 82-74, after being down by one point at the half against the visiting Huskies from Hughson on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

RHS outscored their opponents in both the third and fourth quarters, by five points and four points, respectively, to come away with the win.

The JV Bruin boys fought a tight one, but came up just a little short, losing 49-45, while the freshman boys lost by a much larger margin.

Riverbank boys teams traveled to face the Hilmar Yellowjackets on Friday, Jan. 30 with the varsity losing a tough one there, and were to host the Escalon Cougars on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

For the girls, the varsity Lady Bruins closed out the first half of league play on top of the standings, not having lost a TVL contest.

On Thursday, Jan. 29, it was the Lady Bruins basketball teams hosting Hilmar’s Lady Yellowjackets, the varsity Riverbank squad serving a 58-47 win in conference play.

Neither of the other two girls teams did as well, with the JV Lady Bruins falling to Hilmar 35-10 and the frosh ladies down 48-34 by the end of regulation play.

Last Tuesday, Jan 27, the girls teams traveled to Hughson, where senior Olivia Luu was named player of the game in a 56-47 victory over the Lady Huskies varsity squad.

All three girls teams were scheduled to travel to Escalon on Tuesday, Feb. 3 before moving over to take on Ripon Christian on Thursday, Feb. 5.

Winter Homecoming activities are scheduled for this week, including class spirit competitions, crowning of the Homecoming King following the dodge ball game on Wednesday in the gym, beginning at 5 p.m., and crowning of Homecoming Queen at halftime of the varsity boys basketball game against Ripon Christian on Friday, Feb. 6.
