Riverbank High School (RHS) had a fall sports rally and assembly on Wednesday, Dec. 4 to recognize young athletes that participated in the fall sports of cross country, football, soccer, volleyball, and golf.

RHS cheerleaders energetically hit the Fauria Gym floor and got the crowd charged up to start the assembly.

Leadership presenter Janelle Luu introduced the award winners for the Varsity Football team which were as follows: Eddie Guardado, Best Defensive Player; Fabian Arana, Most Valuable Player; Austin Wey, Most Improved; Ryan Stiner, All-Bruin; Joseph Orsburn, Most Inspirational; and Freddy Capas, Best Offensive Player.

The boys and girls cross country teams were TVL and Sac Joaquin D-IV section champions. The boys finished 13th in the state and the girls finished 18th in the state. Mikayla Florez was TVL and section champion and took fifth place honors at the state meet. Luis Figueroa was TVL champion and fourth in section.

The award winners for Cross Country were presented by Christian Bolanos and were as follows: Sam Gong, Most Inspirational; Adrian Salazar, All-Bruin; Moises Gomez, Most Improved; Jonathen Beliera, Most Dedicated; Kimberly Ruvalcaba, Most Improved; Joslyn Beliera, Rising Star and Sabrina Garcia, All-Bruin. Adrian Salazar, Luis Figueroa, and Mikayla Florez received the Foundation Award.

Golf award winners were presented by Vanessa Ramos and were as follows: Emily Blevins, Most Valuable Golfer; Alyssa Mickelson, All-Bruin; and Janelle Luu, Miss Perseverance.

The award winners for soccer were: Rodrigo Quintero, Offensive MVP; Edgar Garcia, Young Cub; Jesus Yepez, Defensive MVP; and Eric Hernandez, All-Bruin.

The volleyball award winners were: Brittany Cody, Best Defensive Player; Chloe Arnold, Best Offensive Player; Kendra Garcia, All-Bruin; and Sierra Nabors, Most Improved.

Principal Diana Jimenez announced the TVL scholar athletes who were Emily Blevins, golf; Toni Adams, volleyball; Eric Hernandez, soccer; Eddie Guardado, football; Jonathen Beliera, boys cross country; and Sabrina Garcia, girls cross country.

The TVL scholar athletes must have a high GPA and be a major contributor to the team.

The assembly ended with cheers, laughter, and plenty of smiles.

“I can’t be more happy with how our teams performed,” said John Bartlett, RHS Athletic Director. “To have two section champions, cross country and a second place in sections for soccer, is fantastic.”
