Following a title-winning varsity campaign in the Trans-Valley League – a season that also produced Coach of the Year honors for Monte Wood and Robbie Searway – the Bruin cross country runners kept up a solid pace at the Saturday subsections in Angels Camp.

“Both varsity teams easily qualified to sections without racing really hard. We had three boys medal, Adan Chavez, Emmanuel Chavez and Ruben Paredez,” said coach Wood. “Two girls medaled, Kim Ruvalcaba and Haley Richardson. I was excited that Lydia Hodges ran really well. She has really bounced back from her health issues last year and she may be the difference in the Section meet.”

Yosemite Ruelas medaled and qualified in the JV girls race. The frosh-soph boys team of Esteban Reyes, Ivan Vega, Francisco Pizarro, Jose Lares, Carlos Aguilera, and Francisco Murguia qualified to the Section meet as well, said Wood. Among those runners, Ivan Vega and Esteban Reyes medaled.

Two freshmen girls qualified, Kim Alderete and Diana Herrera will be running at the Section meet for Riverbank.

“It is going to be really tough and exciting,” Wood said.

The Section meet is in Folsom on Saturday, Nov. 15.
