Riverbank’s varsity football team took a tough shutout loss at home on Friday night, while the flag football team was on the road for two games this past week, finding success in both.
The football squads are among the fall teams in action for the Bruins; here is a look at the recent contests.
Varsity Football
Riverbank hosted Big Valley Christian High School on Friday, Oct. 10 on Senior Night at Angelo Novi Field. The game, however, didn’t go Riverbank’s way, as they fell to the visiting Lions by a 34-0 final.
Big Valley put seven points on the board in the first quarter, 13 in the second and capped off the scoring with a pair of touchdowns and extra points for 14 more in the third quarter. Riverbank could not get into the end zone. For the visiting Lions, who improved to 3-1 in Mother Lode League play as Riverbank dropped to 1-3, they were paced by Jeremie Jourdan with three rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Travis Lema threw two touchdown passes, one to Joel Geddes and one to Ezra Stubbert.
The Bruins go on the road for this week’s contest, heading to Linden for an Oct. 17 game. Linden is 5-2 overall, 4-0 in league.
Lady Bruin Flag Football
The girl gridders played two games this past week, with the first on Tuesday, Oct. 7, traveling to Tracy to take on the Dragons of Delta Charter High School, finishing with a 59-0 victory. Leading the way was senior Raquel Jimenez, who completed 7-of-11 pass attempts for 99 yards and two touchdown strikes, one to Aaliyah White and one to Summer Mitre. Jimenez also rushed for four touchdowns herself on five carries for 169 yards; teammates Nathaly Santana and Madison Bosworth each had a rushing touchdown as well. Defensive leaders were Natalie Rivera and Peyton Shrider with three tackles apiece.
On Thursday last week, they went back to Tracy to play against the Millennium High School Falcons, also winning there, 24-14. Jimenez had 16 carries for 252 yards and three touchdowns to lift her team past the Falcons. Defensively she was the team leader in tackles with seven.
This week, they were to play at Gustine on Oct. 14, and host the River Islands Riptide from Lathrop on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Lady Bruin Volleyball
The varsity volleyball girls hosted Summerville High School from Tuolumne County last Tuesday, falling 3-0 to the Lady Bears. On Oct. 9, they traveled to Linden High School, taking on the Lady Lions, falling there by the same 3-0 score, getting swept in both contests this past week. At Linden, the Riverbank girls fell 18-25, 15-25, 11-25.
They were to host Big Valley Christian High School from Modesto on Oct. 14, then travel to San Andreas to play the Calaveras Lady Red Hawks on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Co-Ed Cross Country
Riverbank runners are scheduled to compete in the #3 Mother Lode League meet at the Wild Cat Ranch in Sonora on Wednesday afternoon., Oct. 15.
Lady Bruin Golf
RHS linksters were set to host Bret Harte on the Ripon Golf Course in league competition on Oct. 14.
Youth Football
Over the weekend, it was the Outlaws facing the Outlaws in youth football play on the Riverbank High School campus.
Riverbank’s Outlaws program hosted the Outlaws from Mudville, in Stockton, on Saturday, Oct. 11. The Riverbank contingent split results, winning two games and losing two. The youngest Starts fell 32-0 with the Rookies taking a 31-0 loss to Mudville. The Riverbank JV won by a 35-19 final and the varsity score was 25-21 in favor of Riverbank.
