The Riverbank varsity boys basketball team was successful in winning its Homecoming Game on Friday, and boys soccer held on for a home field win as well, but the winter sports season will be coming to a close soon on the RHS campus.

Senior nights, the final days of the season for recognizing seniors playing their last home games, were to begin this week.

Workouts for spring sports such as track and field, baseball and softball and boys volleyball and golf have already begun, and accompanying schedules have been released.

Here is a look at the action for the Bruins over the past week.

Bruins Basketball

Varsity boys basketball split two games last week, but won the biggie, the Homecoming Game, last Friday.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22, they traveled to Hilmar, dropping a 67-52 loss to the Yellowjackets.

But on Jan. 25, they rocked the jam-packed Ray Fauria Gymnasium, holding on to defeat the visiting Cougars of Escalon, for the 67-64 Homecoming Game win. Following a 31-31 tie at the half, the fourth quarter seemed to come down to a battle of free throws and Robert Cunha sank some key shots from the charity stripe down the stretch to help secure the win.

This week, they were to host Ripon on Tuesday, Jan. 29 and travel to Hughson for a Thursday game, Jan. 31. They’ll finish their home season on Tuesday, Feb. 5 with Senior Night hosting Ripon Christian. They close out the TVL season on the road on Feb. 8 at Livingston.

Bruin Soccer

Varsity boys soccer hosted Hughson’s Huskies on Tuesday, Jan. 22, holding on with two first-half goals to win the TVL match, 2-1.

They were to play at Ripon on Tuesday, and then be on the road again at Modesto Christian on Jan. 31.

Bruin boys will close out their season here at home with two matches, on Feb. 5 against Hilmar, followed by Senior Night on Feb. 7 against Escalon.

Lady Bruin Basketball

The varsity girls basketball team hosted Hilmar’s Lady Yellowjackets on Tuesday, Jan. 22, falling 46-38, then dropped a 47-38 loss at Escalon last Thursday, Jan. 24.

The girls were to travel to Ripon for a Jan. 29 contest, then host the Lady Huskies of Hughson on Thursday, Jan. 31. Next week they go to Ripon Christian on Tuesday before closing out their TVL season with a Senior Night at home against Livingston.

Girls Soccer

RHS varsity girls soccer was to have their Senior Night on Tuesday, hosting Ripon in a Jan. 22 contest. After a bye on Thursday, they’ll close out their season on the road, at Hilmar on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and on Thursday, Feb. 7 at Escalon.
