Incomplete Tennis Match Worries RHS

Bruin tennis players defeated Ripon, 7-0, in a home match Friday.

But their main concern was how they will finish against Hughson, match that was called Tuesday because of poor light, and will be resumed tomorrow.

Hughson is leading by 3-2 in matches with Riverbank, having won only the first boys and girls singles.

"We're tied in the boys doubles at 1-1 in the third set with our turn to serve. And we're down one game in the mixed doubles," said Riverbank coach Bruce Edwards, explaining that the matches will resume exactly where they left off.

This week, Riverbank play was scheduled to play Escalon on Tuesday (before finishing the Hughson match)

"This Escalon match will be a very close one," Edwards predicted. "We need to win it or Escalon and Hughson will take over the league lead."

In Friday's match against Ripon, Bruin Javier Contreras won 6-1, 6-0, and Matt Santin 6-3, 6-1 in boys singles. Katy Hughes won 6-0, 6-0 and Rachel Soto 6-1, 6-3 in girls singles.

In mixed doubles play, Justin Jarvis and Cecilia Gutierrez won 6-0, 6-0. Riverbank was awarded the girls and boys doubles matches by default.
