Junior Varsity Girls grab Victory Over Ripon

A good start against Ripon made up for a lackluster performance later in the game, providing the junior varsity girls a 46-42 victory.

The Bruin cagers put 17 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter, compared to Ripon's meager six. But they lost both the second and third quarters, 9-8, and the last period, 18-13.

"We came out reallly strong and they played man to man defense," said Riverbank coach Robert Mayfield. "Later on, Ripon changed to zone defense and slowed down our scoring."

Nicole Fatone had a high score of 22 points. Chelsi Walls posted eight points. Four girls, Erica Galvan, Britanny Harrison, Courtney Brock and Kelly Clancey each scored four points.

"Fatone had a great game," said Mayfield. "She scored 11 of her points in the first quarter "

The Bruins experienced a letdown in the last three quarters, Mayfield commented. Ripon is a good team and kept coming, almost hard and long enough to snatch the win.

In contrast to the Ripon game, Riverbank looked sluggish at the beginning of the Patterson game where scores fluctuated wildly, with the Bruins finally losing, 46-38.

In a cold first quarter for both teams, the Bruins scored only four points to Patterson's eight. They then jumped to a 17-14 advantage in the second quarter, but sank to an all time low of one solitary point to Patterson's 10 in the third period.

"The effort was not there. Patterson wanted it more. Although we beat them less than a week before," said Mayfield.

Clancey came to the forefront with the high score of nine points. Brock posted seven points; Harrison and Walls, six each; and Kayla Sedain, five.
