Their already small squad reduced to only five players by Evan Gunther's sickness, Riverbank lost "big time" to Escalon on Friday in the junior varsity boys game.

The Bruins tried hard but yielded the home match by 62-32.

Riverbank lost every quarter, going 21-4, 16-11, 13-7 and 12-10.

"For the first half we only had five guys, and Escalon shot the lights out. I can only remember them missing three or four jump shots for the entire half," said Bruin coach Derrick Burnett.

Leading scorers for the Bruins were Levi Luca, with 13 points, and Ivan Nunez, with eight.

Earlier in the week, the Bruins also were defeated by Ripon Christian, 76-48.

Trailing throughout, Riverbank lost the quarters 19-6, 22-12, 17-13 and 18-17.

Luca again hit the high points, at 16. Nunez was not far behind with 11 points.

"We were very slow in the first quarter," said Burnett. "We played rather better in the second half, both in offense and defense.
