Riverbank High's junior varsity boys basketball team trailed Enochs by just four points after the opening period of play, but a 20-6 Enochs' rally in the second quarter paved the way to a 56-29 defeat of the Bruins in the first round of the 40th Annual Oakdale Rotary Holiday Classic.

"I thought our quickness gave them trouble at the beginning, but it became a half court game and they were able to get inside and use their size advantage," Riverbank coach Mario Ramos said. "It wasn't our best performance and we just kind of let the game get away a little bit."

Enochs players took advantage of a healthy height difference to snare big offensive rebounds and continually score in the paint, creating plenty of work for Bruin center Anthony Navarette. Riverbank's big man scored 12 in the loss, but repeated block attempts forced him to foul out of the contest with 3 minutes, 41 seconds remaining in the game.

Bruce Gong (two treys) added seven points for the Bruins while Christian Contreras and Miguel Guzman each scored four. Oscar Nunes scored two in the loss as well.

"We need to work on the little things and work on cutting down turnovers and (opposing) offensive rebounds," Ramos said. "It would help to stay out of foul trouble, too."

With the loss, Riverbank drops to 5-7 on the year. The team played game two of the Rotary Classic on Tuesday, though results were not available at press time.
