The Riverbank varsity softball team has featured two pairs of sisters this season, both sets playing positions in the infield.

The Vargas twins are seniors and will be graduating this week. Third baseman Desirae wears jersey number 5, while catcher Denise’s number 7 is only seen when she’s at bat or on the base paths, because of her gear.

The pair also received a number of awards and scholarships at last week’s school assembly.

The other pair includes sisters Maya and Mahaila Guzman. Like the twins, Mahaila is a senior, who will be graduating this week, while Maya is a sophomore and is expected to return to the diamond next year.

The Guzman sisters have been trading off in the infield this year, alternating between shortstop and pitcher.

All the sisters have contributed to the team’s success this season, with hits, including home runs, stealing bases and scoring runs, along with consistent play on the field. The Vargas sisters and Mahaila Guzman were all team captains this season as well.
