Earning your first Trans-Valley League victory of the season is always a high point, but getting that victory in an 11-1 blowout fashion makes things a little sweeter and that is exactly how the Riverbank High softball squad put the first mark in the league win column.

Riverbank took advantage of a less-than-stellar Ripon Christian performance to improve their overall record to 2-5 and hand sophomore hurler Carlye Avey her first TVL win of the season.

Avey was masterful in the Lady Bruins' win, holding the Knights to just two hits and one run over seven innings of work. Avey made the most of her afternoon, helping out her own cause with a 2-for-3 showing in the batters box.

Riverbank wasted little time asserting themselves as the more dominant team, pushing across a run in the second inning, followed by three in the third, four in the fourth and another three-spot in the fifth inning.

Cali Avey and teammate Kaylin Palavos paced the Lady Bruin offensive attack by both going 3-for-4 in the contest. Palavos added a pair of RBI in the win. Carlye Avey slammed a double and a triple in her three plate appearances, driving in a game-high four RBI in the process.

Riverbank's Amanda Lopez handled the catching duties for the Lady Bruins and also showed herself worthy at the plate, blasting a solo shot home run to help pad the 10-run difference.

The Lady Bruins' 14 hit attack was their biggest breakout since a similar outburst against Turlock Christian back on March 7. Riverbank will have to keep their focus at a high level with a talented Hughson squad coming to town on March 26.

Riverbank will then get ready for a visit from the Modesto Christian Crusaders on March 31. Modesto Christian had a field day against the Lady Bruins in their March 12 contest, outscoring Riverbank 9-0 in both school's TVL opener.

Riverbank was in the contest after the Crusaders chipped across two in the first and two in the third, but a four run fifth inning spelled out the results for the Lady Bruins.

Both home contests against Hughson and Modesto Christian are scheduled for 4 p.m. first pitches.
