Lady Bruins Falter Against Undefeated Argonaut

The undefeated Argonaut High Mustangs girls basketball team proved to be just as good as advertised this past week, in a 68-4 shellacking of Riverbank.

The Lady Bruins allowed 64 unanswered points and scrambled to stop a potent Mustang offense that scored at will.

"I can't remember ever being beat that bad," Riverbank coach Tim Carnes said. "Argonaut is a very good team and we were not able to play defense the way we wanted to."

Riverbank still sports a winning record (7-6) with three preseason games left on the docket, and could see some love in the first release of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V power rankings.

The team was supposed to face Linden on Friday, but scheduling conflicts forced the game to be played this week. The Bruins close preseason play with legitimate chances for victory against both Bret Harte and Amador.

The team faced Bret Harte (4-9) Tuesday, though results were not available at press time. Amador (3-9) awaits a home contest with Riverbank on Friday, Jan. 15.

"It would be nice to end preseason strong with a pair of wins," Carnes said. "We just have to clean up some things and get healthy."

The Lady Bruins open Trans Valley League play on the road at Ripon Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
