There were over 60 Foundation Games played on Sept. 3 throughout the Sac-Joaquin Section and the Riverbank High volleyball team had the honor of hosting one of the matches when they rolled out the welcome mats for Enochs High.

The Lady Bruins displayed their new facility to the Eagles and gave the intense Riverbank fans a quality show in the team's first action on their home court.

The Sac-Joaquin Section orchestrated 62 games for this season's Foundation action, helping raise funds for the section office through the running of the volleyball and basketball events. Officials donated their efforts as well in the section tradition.

Riverbank battled with a talented Eagles team, dropping the home-opener in three, but consistently clawing with the Eagles, making a great match up.

The Lady Bruins clearly fed off of their raucous home crowd, jumping out on Enochs early with an all out barrage to start the contest. Enochs, 5-1 heading into the matchup, showed the resiliency of a good team, fighting their way back into the game and reeling on through the match 25-14, 25-17 and 25-15.

The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, at its January 2002 Board of Managers meeting, approved Foundation Games for both volleyball and basketball in an effort to raise money for the scholarship programs.

The total purse from the doors is donated back to the section office and partitioned through several different avenues, including one of the section's top awards, The Dale Lacky Scholarship which will kick out over $34,000 in assistance to student-athletes continuing their education.

The Lady Bruins will not be back in their friendly new confines for a lengthy run, taking to the busses for five consecutive matches, until they play host to the Crusaders of Modesto Christian in Trans-Valley League action.

Riverbank will suit up against Bret Hart on Sept. 10 and will then begin action in the Golden Valley Tournament in Merced on Friday, Sept. 11.
