With just the Trans-Valley League Final meet to come Oct. 29, the Riverbank High varsity girls cross country squad took another step toward its ultimate goal with a dominating performance in the TVL meet in Modesto on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

The Lady Bruins outscored the Escalon Lady Cougars 24-44 to earn their second victory in as many league meets on the season. Ripon High was well off the pack with its 62 point finish, pushing the Lady Bruins and Cougars to the head of the pack, with Riverbank holding the convincing edge.

Tayler Anderson continued to shine in her senior season posting a time of 21:49 for the meet's best time, followed by teammate Lizzy Uscanga at 21:52.

Gemma McHugh came in fifth overall with a time of 22:16, while teammate Natalia Herrera (23.01) rounded out the Riverbank top-10 finishers.

The boys varsity squad just did not have the power to contend with Escalon's numbers, falling to the Cougars 34-45 in the Regional Park meet. Escalon's Matt Barnum and Riverbank's Jacob Hodges put together a stunning finish, with Barnum edging Hodges out for the meet's fastest time.

Hodges was just edged out of the No. 1 spot racing the 5k course in 17:17, teammate Chris Nunez finished directly behind Hodges with a 17:31 finish.

Alex Reyes rounded out the Bruins with top-10 finishes, completing the meet in 18:09, good for seventh place overall.

The teams will be back on the pavement when they travel to Woodward Reservoir for the Escalon Invitational today, Oct. 8 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
