Riverbank softball finished its regular season, with a final home game last week, but their final standing in Trans-Valley League play won them a slot in the postseason Sac-Joaquin Section Tournament.

Lady Bruin Softball

Though the end of the school year is just around the corner, RHS softball players have qualified for this week’s Division 6 Sac-Joaquin Section Tournament. The girls closed out the regular season with a 13-0 win over Hilmar at home on May 8, took a 7-4 win on the road at Escalon on May 10, then hosted and defeated Livingston, 4-1, on May 11.

On to the postseason, the opening round was scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, with the Lady Bruins set to host a quarterfinal game against Vacaville Christian High School at 4 p.m. The game was played after press time for The News.

Although seeded seventh in the tournament, VCHS posted a perfect record in the Sierra Delta League, taking first place honors, while Riverbank was seeded at No. 2 for D6 play, getting the home game as the higher seed. The Lady Bruins finished league play second in the TVL, with an 8-2 record there.

The semifinal round is scheduled for Thursday, May 18, with the Section Championship Game set for Saturday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Cosumnes River College.

Track & Field

Two Lady Bruin tracksters competed in last week’s California Interscholastic Federation SJS Division V final at Weston Ranch, near Stockton, on Thursday, May 11.

RHS Athletic Director Juan Harvey congratulated freshmen Giselle Fernandez and Maya Guzman for qualifying to the CIF SJS Master’s Meet.

He reported that “Giselle’s time of 5:06 ranks her 10th in the Section and is only two seconds from our school record. Maya’s triple jump of 34-feet 3-inches is only three inches from our school record.”

Harvey added that “Maya will compete on Friday and Giselle will run on Saturday. Maya has also been helping to lead our softball team to another playoff appearance while competing in track.”

The CIF-SJS Masters Meet will be held at Davis High School in Davis.

Co-Ed Tennis

Coach Bruce Edwards reports that his team’s work is not quite done yet, either.

When asked if their season was over, he said, “Not yet; taking kids to Stockton today (Monday, May 15) for the Section Individual tournament at Oak Park.”

Riverbank had three doubles teams that qualified to play.
