Annual Run Starts Off Cheese And Wine Festival

As it does each year, the annual Riverbank Run for the Cheese 5k run/walk and10k run kick started the Cheese and Wine festival weekend.

The Run For The Cheese is organized by Race Director Bruce Edwards, retired cross country coach at Riverbank High School. Proceeds from the race benefit RHS athletic programs and other local schools.

After registration and warm-ups, the starter’s gun went off at precisely 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the starting line on Jackson Avenue, east of Galaxy Theatres. Just over 17 minutes later, 19 year old Isacc Gonzalez crossed the finish line after the final stretch behind the theatre building. He competed in the 13-19 Male Division and turned in a time of 17:04.451. First female runner across the line in the 5k was Sabrina Garcia, running in the 13-19 division, completing the course in 20:21.137. She was seventh overall among all runners.

12 and Under— Theo Miller, first; second was Cayden Edmonton; Damian Bolanos was third.

13-19— Gonzalez, first; Estaban Villsenor was second; Nathaniel Mohr was third.

20-29— Joshua Merrill, first; Marco Lara was second; Chase Edwards was third.

30-39— Matt Davis, first; Sean Scully, second; and Christopher Langston, third.

40-49— Michael Dean, first; Mike Boyer, second, Hector Bolanos, third.

50-59 — Raymond Rodriguez, first; Jose Munoz, second; Ken Hurst, third.

60-69 — Dennis Barley, first; Manuel Cabrera, second; Don Harris, third.

70-79 — Juan Manuel Garcia, first; Joe Rozelle, second.

80+ Male — Joe LoBianco, first.

 

Female

12 and Under — Taylor Scheuber, first; Ashley Bartlett, second; Hailee Gonsalves, third.

12-19 —Garcia, first; Kendra Branch, second; Kayla Reis, third.

20-29 — Bianca Melchor, first; Mireya Munoz, second; Reyna Navarrette, third.

30-39 — Nancy Eubanks, first; Yoly Rodriguez, second; Lupita Lara, third.

40-49 — Betty Topping, first, Dalila Rodriguez, second; Laura Clark, third.

50-59 — Sheila Menezes, first; Melody Hamilton, second; Sheila Rose, third.

60-69 — Sara Pires, first, Kit LoBianco, second; Sheila Annis, third.

 

Top finishers in the 10k were Adan Chaves, male, 13 to 19 division, with a time of 34:00.160 and Mary Coordt, female, fourth overall and the first woman across the line, running in the 40 to 49 age group. She completed the course in 41:28.412.

13-19 — Lina Bhatti; 20-29 — Meghan Sullivan; 30-39 — Lorena Rodriguez; 40-49 — Mary Coordt; 50-59 — Cathy Mitchell; 60-69 — Christine Fitzpatrick; and 70-79 — Chiyou Shingu.
