It’s the week before Christmas, and all through the house, the Bruins have been playing, both indoor and out.

Bruin soccer and basketball was on home courts and fields last week, and while the scores didn’t favor the locals, the action was packed with intensity fitting pre-season, pre-holiday competition.

Bruin Basketball

Boys basketball warmed up the home court on Tuesday, Dec. 12, hosting Bret Harte of Angels Camp, but the varsity team dropped the non-league contest to the Bullfrogs, 60-54.

The Bruins fell to the Wildcats of Sonora at home again last Friday, 54-48, after leading at the half and being tied at the end of the third quarter.

They were to travel to Oakdale today, Wednesday, to face the Mustangs, then Thursday and Friday, they’ll play in the Modesto City Tournament.

Girls Basketball

The Lady Bruin varsity basketball squad had a single home game this past week, hosting Summerville on Wednesday, Dec. 13, but fell 63-43. But they came out on top, on the road in Ceres on Friday, Dec. 15, in a close one, 52-49, over the Lady Bulldogs.

They play in tournaments this week, the varsity at Livingston, while the JV girls are at Atwater.

The girls will only have seven more home games this season, with the next one on Thursday, Dec. 28, against Bret Harte, while school is out for the holidays.

Lady Bruin Soccer

Riverbank varsity girls soccer traveled to Jackson to take on the Argonaut High School Lady Mustangs in pre-season soccer action last Tuesday, where they tied 0-0.

They hosted Rancho Cordova High School last Wednesday, but they came up short, 4-2, in an otherwise close game. They were to travel to Ripon Christian on Monday, Dec. 18, before playing at home both Wednesday, Dec. 20, against the Livingston Lady Wolves, then again at home on Friday, Dec. 22, hosting the Chavez High School Lady Titans of Stockton.

The boys soccer teams hosted two teams last week, with the varsity taking a 6-2 win from Argonaut last Tuesday, Dec. 12. They managed a 4-4 tie with McNair of Stockton last Thursday.

They were to go to Ripon Christian on Monday, Dec. 18, and to Elk Grove to take on Franklin High School on Thursday, Dec. 21.
