The 2017 edition of Riverbank Bruin football is set to begin with four out of the first five games to be played at home, at the Angelo Novi Stadium. And that fifth game will be Homecoming, Sept. 22, against Turlock Christian High School.

Seven of the team’s 10-game season will be played at home.

Riverbank is again posting a non-affiliate schedule, not a member of the Trans-Valley League as other RHS teams are.

The first game, at home, will be against Madison Park Academy, from Oakland, on Aug. 25. All games are scheduled for Fridays.

The second game, also at home, is against Western Sierra High School, from Rocklin, on Sept. 1. The next week, again at home, the Bruins host Stone Ridge Christian, from Merced, on Sept. 8.

The Bruins’ first road game is in Fremont, at the California School for the Deaf, on Sept. 15.

Friday, Sept. 22, will be the Homecoming game, with Riverbank hosting TCHS.

This Homecoming will be different than most, because it will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Riverbank High, established in 1967. A committee of local alumni has begun planning for several days of activities surrounding that game.

There will be more football at home the next week, as Millennium High School from Tracy, comes in on Sept. 29.

The Bruins are back on the road on Oct. 7, at Brookside Christian High School in Stockton, then they host Delta High School from Clarksburg on lucky Friday, the 13th of October. A bye week follows on Oct. 20.

The push to the end of the season begins with the last home game on Oct. 27, hosting Big Valley Christian High School from Modesto. Also, it will be Senior Night.

The Football Bruins end their season on the road on Nov. 3, in San Andreas, against Sierra Ridge ROP.

Lady Bruin Volleyball Practice Starts

Official tryouts for girls volleyball were scheduled for last Monday after school, with the first volleyball action set for the Orestimba Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 26, in Newman.

The first home games will be against Ceres High School in the Foundation Game, on Monday, Aug. 28. The Lady Bruins travel to Galt on Aug. 29 to take on Liberty Ranch High School.

They return home on Aug. 30, hosting Argonaut High School from Jackson. They'll play at Grace Davis High in Modesto on Aug., 31, then to Sutter Creek to take on Amador on Sept. 5.

Then they'll play at Downey HS in Modesto, on Sept. 6, before returning home to host Delhi on Thursday, Sept. 7.

The volleyball season continues through the end of October.

Cross Country Set To Run

The Bruin cross country runners are set to get their season underway, on Saturday, Aug. 26, with a team time trial and barbecue at Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale.

They’re scheduled to participate in the Kim Duyst Invitational at River Oaks Golf Course on Sept. 1, before the first Trans-Valley League race at Tuolumne Regional Park in Modesto, on Sept. 6.

Then they travel to Norco, in Riverside County, for the Woodbridge Invitational. The cross country season continues through the end of November.
