As school resumed in Riverbank classrooms this past week following the extended holiday break, sports teams were also in action, with soccer and basketball played here at home. And Trans-Valley League competition remains in full swing.

Bruin Girls Soccer

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, girls soccer teams saw action on the high school field. The Lady Mustangs of Mountain House came to town, and, after a closely contested match, went away with a 4-3 win. It was not without intense scoring, as Guadalupe Rodriguez led the RHS charge, scoring all three goals for the Lady Bruins. Unfortunately, Mountain House came back right after every Riverbank score and had one extra, outscoring Riverbank by the single tally.

This week, the girls were to play in Hilmar on Monday, Jan. 15, with a bye scheduled for Wednesday. On Friday, they’re set to host Ripon.

Lady Bruin Basketball

Last Tuesday, the Riverbank girls basketball teams traveled to Hilmar, with the varsity beating the Lady Yellowjackets, 55-48, in the Jan. 9 TVL game.

This Tuesday, Jan. 16, they were scheduled to go to Ripon to meet the Lady Indians. Thursday, they’re set to host Hughson’s Lady Huskies, with the Mountain House Lady Mustangs coming to town next Tuesday.

Bruin Boys Basketball

Riverbank hosted Hilmar last Tuesday, Jan. 9, beating the Yellowjackets, 51-39, in league play. Last weekend, the Bruins competed in the non-league Modesto Christian Showcase Tournament.

Resuming league play this week, they were to host Ripon High yesterday, Jan. 16, travel to Hughson on Friday, then go to Mountain House on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

RHS Boys Soccer

The Bruins hosted Escalon’s Cougars in the rain on Monday, Jan. 8, coming out on the short side of a 4-1 final score, before a 2-0 league win at Mountain House last Wednesday.

They were to host Hughson’s Huskies on Monday this week, after The News went to press, then travel to Ripon to face off with the Indians on Friday.

Including this week, there are only four weeks of games left in the 2018 winter sports seasons.
