Riverbank High School winter sports teams, boys and girls basketball and soccer, kick off their 2016-17 seasons with scrimmages or matches this week at home.

Winter sports athletes, both boys and girls, at Riverbank High School have been practicing for only a short time, but they were to start their preseason competition this week, with Trans-Valley League action not scheduled for a few weeks.

In this holiday shortened school week, Lady Bruin soccer teams were to host Johansen’s Lady Vikings from Modesto for scrimmage matches on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 22. That same day, the Bruin basketball varsity and JV teams were to host a four-team scrimmage session Tuesday evening.

Today, Wednesday, boys frosh, JV and varsity basketball teams are set to compete at Enochs High School in Modesto beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The varsity hoop squads, both boys and girls, are scheduled to host their Foundation Games on Monday, Nov. 28, against Johansen. The girls game is set for 6 p.m. while the boys start at 7 p.m.

At the end of next week, the girls varsity will compete in the Edison Tournament in Stockton Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 1 through 3, while the JV Lady Bruins travel to Escalon for a tournament Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.

On the soccer side, Bruin boys travel to Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp next Tuesday, Nov. 29, then host Johansen’s Vikings on Thursday, Dec. 1.

The Lady Bruin soccer team hosts Bret Harte next Tuesday, then takes on Modesto High on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at home.
