Bruin Wrestlers Finish League Play With JV Tournament In Modesto

The Riverbank Junior Varsity wrestling squad finished out their regular season over the weekend, with a trip to Gregori High School on Saturday, Jan. 25, for a tournament. Multiple schools from throughout Central California were on hand, and there were six mats of action in the massive gym. TVL Varsity teams have a league meet early in February, then Sections, Division and the State Meet following.

Other Bruin teams also continued with their league schedules this past week.

 

Bruin Boys Soccer

Riverbank hosted two home matches last week, facing the Yellowjackets of Hilmar on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and losing 2-1, then a match against Escalon’s Cougars, fighting to a 4-4 tie on Thursday, Jan. 23. They took an early lead on Escalon but saw the visiting team score four times in the second half to leave the pitch with the tie.

Riverbank was scheduled to host Livingston on Tuesday, then were to travel to Hughson for TVL action on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

 

Lady Bruin Soccer

The varsity girls had away matches last week, losing 2-1 at Hilmar on Tuesday, Jan. 21, then in Escalon, 4-1. Against the host Lady Cougars, the Riverbank team was knotted 1-1 at the half but the home team surged ahead on the strength of three second half tallies. The Lady Bruins –which does not have a JV team – were to go to Livingston yesterday, Jan. 28, then return home to host Hughson on Jan. 29.

 

Bruin Boys Basketball

Riverbank’s varsity boys were up by one point at the end of the first quarter on Thursday, Jan. 23, hosting Ripon Christian, but that was the last time they were ahead of the Knights. The Bruins worked their way back from a 10-point deficit to get within striking range late in the game, but still lost 80-75 at the final buzzer.

They had better luck on the road on Friday, defeating the host Wolves of Livingston, 53-46.

The Bruins were to host Hilmar in Jan. 29 action, then close out the week and the month at Escalon on Friday, Jan. 31.

 

Lady Bruin Basketball

Varsity girls fell to the Lady Knights 36-26 at Ripon Christian last Wednesday. They returned home the next day, Jan. 24, losing by a 70-36 decision to Livingston.

They were to travel to Hilmar on Tuesday, Jan. 28 after the News went to press, then host Escalon’s Lady Cougars on Thursday, Jan. 30.
