Friends, family, coaches and athletes all gathered to celebrate excellence in the winter sports season at Riverbank High School earlier this month. Some students came in their everyday attire, while others came to the event directly from their spring team practices.

The Sports Awards were presented on Wednesday, March 14, beginning at the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium on campus, presented by the team’s coaches and organized by RHS Athletic Director John Bartlett.

First, Bartlett noted the listing of 73 scholar athletes on this winter’s teams. These are students who maintain a 3.5 or better grade point average during their season. They earned a small patch for their sports jackets. After the Scholar/Athlete awards were acknowledged, Bartlett handed over the microphone to the various varsity coaches, who announced their awards, presenting them to their athletes.

Following these awards, the teams split up, adjourning to classrooms around the campus, where they received other patches and certificates, along with awards to JV and freshman teams. After that, players and their families returned to the lobby of the gym where Bruin Boosters parents provided refreshments to close out the evening.
