Following an announcement early last week that Riverbank’s JV and varsity football teams would be combining, Bruin football sent a single, unified squad to Angels Camp on Friday, Oct. 23 to take on the Bullfrogs of Bret Harte High School. Unfortunately, Riverbank fell in a final score of 58-6.
The Bruins score came in the second quarter, with a missed PAT attempt. At the end of the first half, the score was 44-6.
Combining the JV and Varsity squads undoubtedly came because of injuries on the older team. While the Bruin varsity roster started with 21 players at the beginning of the season, coach Kit Jory reported the week before, Oct. 9, that injuries to his players for that game left a squad that had seven players either out with injuries or impaired by them.
In his announcement last week, RHS Athletic Director John Bartlett noted that, because of just a single game being played, start time was being moved up to 7 p.m.
That will also be the case on Friday, when the Bruins host the Vikings of Johansen High School of Modesto. Since it’s the last home game and final game of the season, Riverbank High School will honor its graduating senior players and cheerleaders for their work this year. It’ll be their final appearance before a hometown crowd.
SOCCER
The Riverbank boys varsity soccer team faced two opponents last week, winning both a home and away soccer match.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, Riverbank was out of town, traveling to play in Hughson. RHS blanked the Huskies, 6-0, with two goals in the first half and four in the second.
In a game that was originally scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15, the Bruins easily rolled over the visiting Mountain House Mustangs, 11-1, with RHS finding the back of the net six times in the first half, five more in the second. Mountain House got one goal, in the first half. The game was played on Friday, Oct. 23.
The Bruins sported a record of 5 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie in Trans-Valley League standings at the end of last week.
Teams were due back in action on the home field for play on Tuesday, Oct. 27 hosting the Ripon Indians. Since it was the final home match of the 2015 season, the team seniors were to be recognized during the game.
GOLF
It’s tournament season now for the Lady Bruin golfers.
Last week, they were to compete in the VFL Tournament on Monday, Oct. 19, and the Annual Fall Pro-Am Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
This past Monday, the 26th, the Division V Sections were scheduled at Micke Grove Golf Links in Stockton.
CROSS COUNTRY
After having last week off, both boys and girls cross country teams have season-ending meets scheduled.
Today, they travel to Legion Park in Modesto for the Trans-Valley League Championships.
Saturday, Nov. 7, brings the Sub-Section Meet in Angles Camp, followed by the Section Meet on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Folsom High School. Their season ends with the State Meet at Woodward Park in Fresno, on Saturday, Nov 28, the weekend of Thanksgiving.
