Four Runners Medal On Fresno Course
RHS

Riverbank’s cross country runners raced at the Roughrider Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno on Friday, Oct. 13.

“We had three boys medal in the frosh/soph race which is pretty good. Isaac Andalon, Isaiah Bargas, and Jesus Sepulveda all medaled and ran really well,” said head coach Monte Wood. “All our freshmen and sophomores ran really well. Their times were faster for 2.1 miles than they were for our two-mile course at Legion Park.”

Adan Salgado and Fredy Arana also ran in that race and ran great times.

“We have a solid nucleus of freshmen and sophomores that we can build around for the future,” noted Wood.

In the varsity girls race, Alondra Hernandez ran a personal record of 20:12 which was almost a minute faster than last year.

“She medaled and might have been able to run a little faster if she hadn’t had her hip start to hurt in the last mile of the race,” Wood explained. “Her time moved her up to 10th in the section, and we are hopeful that she can qualify to state.”

Diane Murillo, Anastasia Toscano, Yara Choeb and Angelina Moreno also set personal records but did not medal.

“None of our varsity boys medaled, but Miko Bargas ran his first 5k on Friday and ran very well. He has been running JV and has really improved. His time places him as the seventh fastest runner on our team, so a move to varsity permanently is expected,” Wood said.

The next race for the Bruins is the TVL Championship Race at Legion Park in Modesto on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
