With the pre-season Jamboree looming just three weeks from now, Riverbank’s Junior Bruin Youth Football teams took to the practice field on the RHS campus this past week, braving high temperatures to begin the 2017 campaign.

The Central Valley Gridiron Youth Football League’s Jamboree games are set for Saturday, Aug. 26 in Merced. The seven-week season gets underway on Sept. 2, with sessions of 10 minutes on offense and 10 minutes on defense alternating with other teams throughout the day, with Future and Starts teams starting at 9:30 a.m., the Rookie and JV teams starting at 12:50 p.m. and the Varsity teams getting underway at 4 p.m.

Riverbank teams will play their four regular season home games on the Riverbank High School field on Saturdays, Sept. 2, Sept. 9, Sept. 23 and Oct. 21, with a bye week on Oct. 14.

There’s also a new age-level team beginning this year. Called the Futures team, it includes 5- to 6-year-olds, making five levels of play for the Junior Bruin teams.

The other levels include the Starts, 7- and 8-year-olds; the Rookies, the 9- and 10-year-olds; the JVs are 11- and 12-year-olds, with the Varsity Junior Bruins being 13- and 14-year-olds.
