Trans-Valley League action continued over the past week for Riverbank High sports teams, both at home and on the road.
Lady Bruin Volleyball
The Riverbank girls hosted Livingston’s Lady Wolves on Monday, Sept. 23, falling in three straight games, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-14.
They found a similar outcome on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Hilmar, on the short side of the three set sweep, 25-10, 25-8 and 25-19, by the Lady Yellowjackets.
The Lady Bruins had a bye on Monday this week, and were set to host Modesto Christian’s Lady Crusaders at 5:30 p.m. for JV and 6:30 p.m. for varsity action on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Next week, they play on the road, at Ripon on Monday, Oct. 7 and at Hughson on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Bruin Football
The RHS football teams returned to the home field last Friday, Sept. 27, hosting the Indians of Ripon High School.
In the early game, the junior varsity Bruins fell 40-0, with the varsity doing slightly better.
The varsity team blanked Ripon in the second half, scoring a touchdown of their own in the fourth quarter on a pass play from quarterback Bryce Martin to receiver Easton Gutierrez. The point after was kicked successfully through the uprights by Margarito Capetillo off a hold by Gutierrez.
Unfortunately, the Bruins gave up 21 points in each of the first two quarters, ending up on the down side of the 42-7 final score in league play.
Co-Ed Cross Country
The Riverbank runners have two invitational meets coming up on the road: the Artichoke Invitational at Half Moon Bay on Saturday, Oct. 5, and the Rough Rider Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Girl Golfers
The Lady Bruins aren’t scheduled to have a home match until next week, when they have two, hosting Denair on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and Gustine on Thursday, Oct. 10. Both are scheduled at the Escalon Golf Course, starting at 4 p.m., with the Lady Bruins utilizing the 9-hole course in Escalon as their home course this season.
