Make-Up Games Make For Busy RHS Sports Schedule

Bruin senior Igor Ventreschi goes up high to spike the ball past a Mountain House defender in last Thursdays home match. It was the final home series for Riverbank, but they will close out their inaugural season for boys volleyball at Ripon Christian High School on May 3.

Some Riverbank athletes was really busy last week, while others had the week off, and another team finished its final home match for the spring season.

Both boys baseball teams had last week off, with byes on the schedule, but were to resume Wednesday, May 2, hosting Ripon High School. The week previous, they had back to back game days, necessitated by a previous league game rainout.

 

Softball Girls On Diamond

The Lady Bruins were very busy this last week, hosting a makeup game against Mountain House on Monday, April 23, then suiting up again for a regularly scheduled game at home against Hilmar the next day. They suffered a 14-3 loss against the Mustangs, then a 14-2 loss to the Yellowjackets. They were to play at Ripon High on Tuesday, May 1 after The News went to press and go to Hughson on Thursday this week, ending their season on Tuesday, May 8 at home, with Senior Recognition Day preceding the game.

 

Boys Volleyball Winds Down

Bruin volleyballers hosted their final home match last Thursday, with Senior Recognition before the Mountain House games. They will finish their inaugural season on Thursday, May 3 at Ripon Christian High School.

 

RHS Track, Field

Bruin distance runners finished their tournament under the lights last Friday with the German Fernandez Distance Carnival in the evening, following the Ron Hebert Thrower’s Challenge that started after school got out. It was the second annual event for both.

Fernandez was celebrated for the five school and many division titles in track and cross country he acquired while a student at Riverbank. He went on to do well in college and competed in the Olympics.

Hebert was a long-time football and track coach at RHS. The only athletes left out last Friday were the long- and triple-jumpers, pole vaulters and hurdlers.

This week, the Bruins will play host to Escalon for a Trans-Valley League battle on Wednesday, May 2 and then are scheduled to host the TVL finals for all league teams on Thursday, May 10.

Divisional competition, trials and finals, is scheduled for May 15 and 17 at Stanislaus State in Turlock.
