Modesto Junior College women’s tennis player Symone Jacques is headed to Rome, Georgia this week to play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Tennis Championship from Oct. 11 through 15. Jacques qualified by winning the NorCal ITA Regional Championship held Sept. 29-30 in Sacramento.

Jacques, a graduate of Beyer High School and sophomore at MJC, was the number one ranked women’s singles player for community colleges in Northern California last year. At the State Tournament last spring, she was a semifinalist in singles and a quarterfinalist in doubles.

Jacques was named the Big 8 Conference Most Valuable Player, and was honored as the MJC Women’s Student Athlete of the Month for April 2017. She is majoring in biology and carried a 4.0 GPA in the spring semester.

“Symone Jacques is coming off of a fourth in the state singles ranking in California last season, and responds by winning the fall Northern Ca ITA regionals for a chance to compete against the top community college singles players in the United States in a four-day tournament in Georgia,” Coach Milan Motroni said. “Symone is one of the top players that has represented MJC in tennis in over eight years and possibly the best.”
