Nine Riverbank Runners Qualify For Section Meet
RHS

Bruin cross country had nine individuals qualify on to the section meet this Friday, but didn’t have any teams qualify. Runners traveled to Angels Camp for the subsection event at Frogtown on Saturday, Nov. 4.

“The section has dropped so many large schools down into Division 4 that it is so important to have depth to be able to qualify to sections,” noted Riverbank coach Monte Wood. “We were missing Julian Lopez, our number four runner for the varsity boys, due to injury and that hurt us a lot. We would have qualified with him, but we couldn’t risk injuring him further.”

Individually, Chris Martinez, Damian Lopez and Ramon Rosas all qualified in the varsity boys race.

Isaiah Bargas and Jesus Sepulveda qualified in the freshman boys race. Diane Murillo, Anastasia Toscano, and Yara Choeb qualified in the frosh/soph girls race, and Alondra Hernandez qualified in the varsity girls race.

“We think going into sections that Alondra has a really good shot at advancing to state,” Wood said. “The section race is this Friday (Nov. 10) at Folsom High School.”
