Pre-Season Games Continue For Soccer, Basketball

Despite a bit of rain during the week, both soccer matches and basketball games continued in the pre-season for the Riverbank Bruins last week.

Although teams will be competing in tournaments through the end of the year, last week was the final home games for some RHS squads until January. School will be closed from Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, through Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 for Winter Break. Classes resume Monday, Jan. 9.

This week, varsity girls basketball was to travel to Manteca to take on Sierra High School. This weekend, they’re set to compete in the Livingston Tournament, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15 through 17.

Last weekend, the Bruin varsity basketball boys hosted their Tip-Off Tournament, losing their final game against East Union High School of Manteca, 65-57. They were to play at Bret Harte yesterday (Dec. 13) and will be at Sonora on Friday, Dec. 16.

Next week, RHS varsity hosts the Patriots of Beyer High School on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

The Lady Bruins soccer team, meanwhile, was to host Argonaut yesterday, and the varsity is set to play Big Valley Christian tomorrow. Next week, they’re at Lodi on Monday and will take the field in San Andreas on Thursday.

Boys soccer during the past week featured a loss to East Union of Manteca on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 8-0 at home, but the squad rallied to beat Denair, 7-1.

Action in Trans-Valley League contests will start for all the RHS squads following the holiday break.
