Riverbank soccer teams saw mixed results last week, as the winter sports season nears its end. Bruin varsity boys won two out of three matches, while the Lady Bruins lost all three.

Bruin boys varsity basketball dropped a pair of home league games while the varsity girls faced the same two-loss result.

All three varsity soccer games recorded 5-1 scores, with the Bruin boys coming out on top in two of them. On Monday, Jan. 30, the varsity boys lost to the visiting Cougars of Escalon, 5-1. The JV boys of Riverbank won that day’s game by a final of 1-0 over Escalon.

On Wednesday, Feb. 1, and Thursday, the varsity squad beat the Mustangs of Mountain House and the Hughson Huskies, respectively, also 5-1. No JV scores were reported for those contests.

GIRLS SOCCER

The Lady Bruins traveled to Escalon on Monday last week, losing 4-0. On Wednesday, they lost 5-1 at home to the Lady Mustangs of Mountain House before traveling to Hughson, dropping a 6-0 loss to the Lady Huskies this past Thursday.

The soccer teams have scheduled only one game this week, with the boy Bruins traveling to Ripon tonight and the Lady Bruins hosting the Lady Indians from Ripon at the same time. It’ll be their last home game of the season, and Senior Night will be celebrated for the girls.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Lady Bruins split a pair of varsity basketball games last week, both on the road.

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the girls went to Hilmar, losing a close one to the Lady Yellowjackets, 52-48. On Thursday, Feb. 2, they lost at Ripon Christian, 60-50.

Thursday, the girls are scheduled to play at Ripon High, and then will be home to host Hughson on Friday, Feb. 10.

BOYS BASKETBALL

In action on the court this past week, the varsity basketball boys dropped a pair of home games: 66-57 to the Yellowjackets of Hilmar, and 57-46 against the Knights of Ripon Christian. In the latter case, the Bruins just could not overcome the RC height advantage, despite being ahead at the half.

The boy Bruin teams host Ripon on Thursday, Feb. 9 for their final home game of the season, which will also be Senior Night. They travel to Hughson on Friday.

The basketball regular season ends next week on Feb. 14, both boys and girls playing against Mountain House. The boys travel, while the girls are at home.

With the winter season closing out, baseball and softball squads for the Bruins are now gearing up, looking to get some practices in this week among the predicted rainstorms.
