Riverbank’s Junior Bruin football teams’ hopes for continued post-season play ended this past Saturday in Turlock, with losses in the second round of the playoffs.

Both the Futures team, the youngest players, and the Varsity, the oldest Junior Bruins, lost their second round contests. The Futures, ages 5 and 6, lost to the Jr. Gauchos of Merced/Atwater by a 26-0 decision. For the Varsity, they fell in a 26-6 game against the Jr. Pride of Turlock.

The Pride may have had an edge, playing on the home field. Riverbank’s varsity won last week’s first round playoff on its home field at Angelo Novi Stadium.

So Riverbank teams are out of the next round of play, the Junior Super Bowl, this coming Saturday, but team officials say some players might make the All-Star game, the week after. Announcements of those selected for All-Star action are expected to be made after the Super Bowl game.
