Bruin teams across the board are nearing the end of their 2017 spring sports schedules, with some league contests over, some finishing up in the next week.
Boys baseball had just one game on their schedule this past week, a Trans-Valley League contest with visiting Mountain House on Monday, April 24. Baseball typically does a ‘home and home’ series the same week, with the two teams facing each other two times, each team hosting one contest. In this case, the Monday game was hosted by Riverbank; the teams had already met earlier in the month at Mountain House. The visiting Mustangs took a close 3-1 decision over the Bruins, scoring single runs in the third, fifth and seventh. Riverbank avoided the shutout with a single run crossing the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
The varsity boys are scheduled to travel to Ripon to meet the Indians on Wednesday, May 3 and host Ripon in Friday action, May 5. Next week, they will host their Senior Day festivities on Tuesday, May 9 as they welcome Modesto Christian to town, then go to MC for the season finale on Wednesday, May 10.
For the junior varsity squad, they were able to get a win in their game against Mountain House on Monday, edging past the visitors in an 8-7 final.
Lady Bruins Softball
Girls softball saw a busy week at RHS, with three games played against TVL opponents on the home field.
Last Tuesday, April 25, Riverbank was shut out by visiting Hilmar, 8-0. On Wednesday, they slid past the Lady Mustangs of Mountain House, taking them down in a 12-11 win in eight innings. But on Friday, April 28, RHS dropped one to Ripon, 11-1.
This week, they were to play at Ripon High on Tuesday, after The News went to press, then travel to Hughson for a May 4 contest. Next Tuesday, May 9, the Lady Bruins close out their 2017 season at home against Modesto Christian, featuring Senior Night festivities prior to the first pitch.
