The school week before Thanksgiving was shortened for the holiday, but winter sports action at Riverbank got underway, nonetheless.

Boys soccer teams of the Buffaloes of Amador High School in Sutter Creek came to town for scrimmages on Tuesday, Nov. 21, while boys basketball traveled to Manteca to take on the Timberwolves of Sierra High School on the same day. At the same time, the girls basketball and soccer teams were off.

The soccer scrimmage was played rather low key last week, with no clock or scoreboard and only one referee, with teams getting out on the pitch for some early season competition but not an actual game.

Boys Basketball

The Bruin teams were expected to hit the hardwood at Enochs High School in Modesto for scrimmages last Saturday, and the varsity was to be playing in the Foundation Game at Johansen High School on Monday, Nov. 27 after The News went to press.

Wednesday, Nov. 29, the freshman team is scheduled to compete in the Modesto Tournament with games continuing on Thursday and Friday, with the JV and varsity looking ahead to the Ron Peterson Tip Off Tournament this weekend, with basketball action set for Thursday through Saturday on the RHS campus. The teams will welcome multiple opponents to the school for the annual tournament.

Bruin Soccer

Boys soccer was to scrimmage Nov. 28 against Bret Harte, with the Bullfrogs coming to town. Both the Bruin JV and varsity teams will be on the road in tournaments before returning to play at home on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Lady Bruins

Varsity girls basketball was scheduled to compete in the Foundation Game at Johansen High School on Monday, with tournaments on the schedule until they return home to play Ignatio Valley on Saturday, Dec. 9.

The girls soccer teams are on the road, scheduled to play at Bret Harte on Tuesday, Nov. 28 after The News went to press, and then will take part in the Sierra Tournament this Friday and Saturday. They return home on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
