Soccer fields and basketball courts have been humming in advance of the upcoming Christmas break at Riverbank High School.
This past week saw girls soccer playing at home on both Tuesday and Thursday, while Bruin boys basketball also played on the home hardwood, on Wednesday and Thursday.
Lady Bruin Soccer
On Tuesday, Dec. 5, Riverbank hosted the Lady Vikings of Johansen High School in Modesto, losing 2-0. They then faced the Lady Mustangs of Oakdale at home on Wednesday, falling 9-0, both in non-league, preseason games.
On Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8-9, the varsity hit the road, traveling to the Le Grand High School Tournament, east of Merced and Chowchilla.
The girls are to return to the home field this afternoon, Dec. 13, taking on Cordova High School from Sacramento.
Boys Soccer
Both boys teams recently played in Modesto, at Johansen High School last Tuesday, where they tied at 3-3, and then the varsity competed in the Gregori Tournament last weekend.
They were scheduled to host the Argonaut High School Mustangs on Tuesday, Dec. 12, and welcome the McNair Eagles for preseason action on Thursday, Dec. 14. Next week’s games will be on the road, again.
Bruin Basketball
Boys basketball was to return home to face the Bullfrogs of Bret Harte High School from Angels Camp, yesterday, Dec. 12. They’re set to host Sonora coming up on Friday, Dec. 15.
After that, there’s lots of activity scheduled for the Bruins on the road, but they won’t be playing at home again until the first week of the new year.
Lady Bruin Basketball
Varsity girls basketball saw a squeaker win, 61-60, last Saturday, at home against the Lady Warriors of Ygnacio Valley. They’ll host the Lady Bears of Summerville tonight, but then won’t play at home again until after Christmas.
