Riverbank High School sports teams were active last week, getting in several games each, prior to the Spring Break holiday.

Following is a recap of some of the action.

BASEBALL

A pair of games, both home and away against Hughson, saw Riverbank defeated 7-4 here, and 3-2 on the road last week. They were back to back games on April 12 and 13, due to school being closed on Friday, April 14. The JV Bruins went down to similar defeats, 6-2 and 6-0, home and away.

The varsity Bruins were to compete in a Tournament in Ceres this week, starting on Monday, April 17.

SOFTBALL

The girls softball schedule got busy last week, with three games in three days, two home, one away.

On Tuesday, April 11, the team hosted Escalon’s Lady Cougars, but smarted from a 14-0 shutout, falling to the tough visiting squad.

The next day, the Lady Bruins hosted Hughson in a make-up game from the week before, losing that one 12-1. The day after that, April 13, they traveled to Mountain House, clobbering the Lady Mustangs 13-3, to pull out the win going into spring break.

TENNIS

The Riverbank netters were scheduled to host Hughson last Thursday, April 13 but that tournament did not happen, according to the RHS front office. It has been a tough season in terms of stability for many spring squads, with rain often playing havoc with the schedule.

TRACK AND FIELD

An afternoon meet at Mountain House last Wednesday kept Bruin runners, throwers and jumpers busy and away from the Academic Block ‘R’ awards held on the RHS campus that night. There’s been some talk of possibly awarding the academic athletes during the spring sports ceremony in May.

This week is Spring Break for RUSD students, with only the Ceres Tournament on tap for Riverbank varsity baseball players. The schedule will resume with Trans-Valley League contests for Bruins team when they return to school on April 24.
