Sports Teams Busy Prior To Spring Break
Allen
RHS pitcher Briana Allen (33) smacks her second home run of the 2016 season, the first at home this year, against the visiting Big Valley Christian High School on Wednesday, March 23. The Lady Bruins won the home game, 13-3, on Wednesday, following an 8-2 win at BVC on Monday.

As local schools break for spring recess this week, so, too, do the majority of high school spring sports activities, taking a time out from their seasons.

Most will resume next week, as students return to the local campus, and Trans-Valley League play starts in earnest.

This past week saw the conclusion of ‘pre-season’ play for many sports as well as initial league action for others.

Softball

On Monday last week, the Lady Bruins traveled to Big Valley Christian High School in Modesto for a non-league contest. Then they turned around and hosted the Lioness team on Wednesday, March 23, with Riverbank winning both games, 8-2 and 13-3, respectively.

Girls Soccer

The Lady Mustangs of Mountain House came to town on Tuesday, March 22, leaving behind a 2-0 win for the Lady Bruins. On Thursday, the soccer squad traveled to Hughson, where Riverbank suffered a 3-1 loss to split their TVL games for the week.

JV girls soccer slid by Mountain House, 3-2, and defeated the young Lady Huskies, 5-3.

Baseball

The JV and varsity teams traveled to Hilmar on Tuesday, March 22, and then hosted the Yellowjackets on Thursday in a league ‘home and home’ series. The varsity squad lost both games, 2-1 and 10-4, respectively. The JV Bruins won a close home game, 8-7, in action against Hilmar.

Tennis

The Riverbank tennis teams played two matches last week, one at home, one away. On Tuesday, March 22, the Ripon Indians came to town. On Thursday, the 24th, it was the Mountain House Mustangs visiting. No results were reported as of press time for The News.

Boys Golf

Bruin golf hosted Ripon on the La Contenta Golf Course, home field this this year, in Valley Springs. No score was reported.

League Play Resumes

As students return from spring break on Monday, April 4, high school athletes will be hitting their corresponding fields, track, course or courts.

On Tuesday, April 5, Bruin baseball hosts Escalon while Golf travels to the SOS Club to take on Modesto Christian.

On Wednesday, track and field is scheduled to host Escalon, then on Thursday, girls soccer welcomes Ripon while baseball visits Escalon and golf plays a home match against Hilmar at La Contenta at Valley Springs.

On Friday, it’s tennis against Hughson at home and softball hosting Escalon.
