Most Riverbank athletes shifted over to spring sports this past week, with a full week of sunshine providing a welcome backdrop for both practices and action. Following is a recap of early season contests, all non-league games.

Baseball

Bruin baseball’s season got underway last week, on a relatively dry varsity field last Friday, hosting the Wildcats of Waterford, with the Bruins crafting an 8-4 win. The JV Bruins got to use the same varsity field on Saturday, since their home field was not ready. The younger Bruins came away with a 9-6 victory, to start their own season.

Baseball was to continue at Johansen High of Modesto on Monday afternoon, then at home against Summerville of Tuolumne on Thursday.

Softball

The Lady Bruin softball season on the diamond was to get underway on Monday, Feb. 27, weather permitting, with Riverbank hosting Davis of Modesto, then welcoming the Lady Falcons of Millennium High School in Tracy this afternoon, March 1. Tomorrow they’re at Big Valley Christian High School.

Co-Ed Tennis

Boys and girls tennis teams were to start yesterday, Tuesday, Feb. 28 by hosting Orestimba, with the Riverbank Doubles Tournament, featuring a number of area schools, coming up on Thursday and Friday.
