The clearer skies and lack of rainfall this past week meant better playing conditions for Riverbank High soccer players, but it also doubled up the number of games.

A few rainouts from the stormy weeks before were added to the schedules last week, so both boys and girls teams played a number of matches, both at home and away.

Lady Bruin Soccer

The varsity girls team had the toughest go of it, four matches in five days last week.

On Monday, Jan. 23, they played at home against Modesto Christian High School, hanging on to a 1-1 tie. Tuesday, they hosted a makeup game with the Lady Huskies of Hughson and were blanked, 4-0. On Wednesday, they hosted the Hilmar Yellowjackets, going down, 5-0. On Friday, Jan. 27, they traveled to Ripon High for another makeup match, losing 6-0.

The home field was in better condition, but still muddy, especially in front of the goals.

The girls were scheduled to play at Escalon on Monday, Jan. 30, then host Mountain House this afternoon, Wednesday, Feb. 1 and travel for a game at Hughson on Thursday.

Bruin Soccer

Last week, boys varsity soccer beat Modesto Christian 11-0 on the road on Jan. 23, then dropped a close one at Hilmar, 4-3. Last Friday, the Bruins hosted Ripon in a makeup game, prevailing 4-2 against the Indians.

This week, RHS was to host the Escalon Cougars on Monday, Jan. 30, then travel to Mountain House today. They’re scheduled to host Hughson tomorrow.

Boys Basketball

The Bruin varsity hosted Mountain House on Tuesday last week for the win, 61-52, then traveled to Escalon on Friday where they took an 80-60 victory off the court, disrupting the Cougars’ Winter Homecoming celebration. Riverbank used a pair of strong quarters, 22 points in the first and 24 in the third, to take control of the contest. They had a 39-24 halftime lead over the host team.

The boys were set to host Hughson yesterday, then face Ripon Christian on Friday, Feb. 3 at home.

Their final regular season home game comes on Thursday, Feb. 9, with Senior Recognition Night.

Girls Basketball

The Lady Bruins lost at home to Escalon, 59-35, on Thursday, Jan. 26 while the JV Lady Bruins also fell to the visiting Lady Cougars, 40-23. The squads were to play at Hilmar on Jan. 31, after The News went to press, and go to Ripon Christian on Thursday, Feb. 2. Their next home game is a week from Friday.
