Winter Sports Awards Presented To Athletes

Riverbank High student athletes, parents and supporters met recently on campus to celebrate the end of the winter sports schedule.

In addition to their individual contributions to their teams, players were recognized for their high grade point averages throughout the season. Of the many Scholar Athletes in all the sports, six were recognized by the Trans-Valley League with a plaque and a patch.

RHS seniors Sierra Nabors posted a 3.83 GPA and Jennifer Verdin set a 4.0 GPA, playing varsity girls basketball. Eli Vernon, 4.33, and Juan Carlos Hernandez, with a 3.83, represented varsity boys basketball. Wrestler Valleri Gobel, also a senior, set a 4.0 mark and Julia Cabrera also set a 3.83 mark on the Cheer Squad.

The JV girls basketball team averaged a team GPA of 2.81, while varsity girls of all grade levels averaged a 3.44 GPS.

Frosh boys basketball recorded a 3.17 average GPA, JV came in at 2.97 and varsity boys basketball set a 3.14 average.

The four-person wrestling team posted an average 3.71 GPA, while JV Cheerleaders set a 3.36 and varsity cheer came in at 3.40.

There were 33 total Scholar Athletes in Bruin winter sports. By class, 11 seniors, in boys and girls basketball and wrestling; eight juniors, in cheer and girls basketball; seven sophomores, in basketball and cheer; and seven in freshman boys basketball, wrestling and cheer made the scholarly cut.
