Facing some tall, fast and skilled Davis High School players on Tuesday, Bruin spikers lost their away match in three games. The scores were 25-7, 25-14 and 25-9.

"We played pretty well. But our opponents were really good. They had a lot of height and were fast-paced," said Riverbank High School varsity volleyball coach Lisa Mila.

According to statistics for Riverbank, Sonia Naranjo hit three kills and two aces, Kelley Clancey made two blocks and Julissa Perez was credited with two digs.

The junior varsity Bruins, coached by Cassi Ross, won their match at 2-1.

Riverbank varsity spikers also lost a home match against Modesto Christian on Thursday in three games.

But the scores this time were closer. They were 25-18, 25-20 and 25-21.

"We struggled with our passing and are still learning a new defense," said Mila.

The Bruins did not really get going until the third game. By then it was too late, she noted.

Courtney Brock and Monica Cardenas, however, proved very aggressive at the net, and Amber Nickles scored three aces.

"Again, it took us a while to get into the momentum of the game. We need to start moving fast at the beginning. If we can do that, we will be awesome," said Mila.

This Thursday, the Bruins will tackle Waterford again in a home match. They will play in the Summerville Tournament on Saturday and take the road against Ripon next Tuesday.
