Netters take two hits During Week,

It was not a good week for Riverbank High School varsity volleyball.

The Bruins lost by 3-0 to Ripon in an away match Tuesday, and they were defeated again, 3-1, in a home meet on Thursday.

Match scores for Ripon were 25-11, 25-14, 25-20.

"They were a very good team and made very few mistakes. It was hard to keep up with them," said Riverbank coach Lisa Mila of the opposing team.

There were no standout players in the Bruin ranks for that match.

Winning at least one game against Patterson, the Bruins went 25-15, 12-25, 19-25, 22-25.

"We had the potential to win. But we made too many errors," Mila commented. "We took the first game, then lost the rest. I don't know what happened."

Courtney Brock played very well, both in offense and defense "and had a ton of blocks," said Mila.

Julissa Perez in the back row also brought off some "awesome digs."

Christina Alcala, who is the team's best server and brought in just for serves, did very well.

"She gets the job done, very efficiently," said Mila.

Statistics for the Ripon game showed Amber Nickels with 9 assists, 4 digs and 3 aces; Kelly Clancey, with 4 kills; and Brock, with 2 blocks.

In the Patterson match, Brock was credited with 9 kills and 5 blocks; Nickels, with 18 assists; Alcala, with 7 aces; and Perez, with 5 digs.

The Bruins are 2-4 for the season and 0-2 in league.

Their matches this week are non-league. They go against Calaveras on Tuesday and Bret Harte on Thursday. They also will play in the Carmichael Tournament on Saturday. Next week on Tuesday, Sept. 28, they will resume league play in an away match against Hilmar.
