In Preseason Game

The Lady Bruins outlasted Waterford to take a 3-2 varsity victory in a long and close volleyball match on Thursday.

The win boosted their pre-season record to 2-2 with wins over Delhi and Waterford and losses to Davis and Modesto Christian.

In the home match against Waterford, Riverbank girls won the first game, 25-17. They also took the second,25-21, then lost the third at 14-25; the fourth, 20-25; and came back to win the fifth game, 15-12.

"We were inconsistent," said Riverbank coach Lisa Mila. "Everyone was inconsistent except Courtney Brock, who led in blocks, and Julissa Perez, who was top in digs."

"We won the first two games, then went down in the next two, although we finally pulled it out in the end.

Riverbank's serving lacked consistency too, although the Bruins got the key aces when they were needed.

Christina Alcala was top in hitting aces, with a score of six.

Kelly Clancey distinguished herself by making the winning block that ended the final game.

The Bruins were scheduled on the road for their first Trans Valley League match against Ripon on Tuesday. They will be back in Riverbank on Thursday for a home match against Patterson.

The Summerville Tourney, originally scheduled for Sept. 11, was cancelled due to lack of entries.
