Jeremy Doss used a late race pass to claim victory in the Spears SRL Pro Late Model Series “Bischofberger Brawl 166” at the Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday night, Oct. 2.
The win gave Doss, 24, of Upper Lake, a clean sweep of all four SRL Pro Late Model Series races held at the 99 Speedway this year and eight wins out of 10 events, overall, in the touring series this season.
Starting from the front row of the 24-car field, Oakdale’s Blaine Rocha grabbed the early race lead over Tanner Reif, of Henderson Nevada, and Doss. A lap 33 restart allowed Doss to move past Reif into second and that order remained unchanged to the midrace break.
Rocha once again held the top spot when the race resumed, but he was done in by a caution on lap 120 that allowed Doss to squeeze by him on the outside for the lead following the restart. Doss would finish out the remainder of the race without being seriously challenged to take a one second victory.
“I really wanted this one bad,” said Doss as he celebrated the win, and the $15,000 first place prize money that went with it, on the front straight. “It feels good that we made the right adjustments on the car at the break.”
Napa’s Dylan Zampa was able to execute a late race pass to earn second place over Reif while Stockton’s Colby Potts finished fourth and Austin Herzog, of Clovis, rounded out the top five. Unfortunately, Rocha was involved in a pair of late race spins which dropped him to a disappointing 17th place finish.
Stockton’s Nick Hall set the pace over the first eight laps of the of the 25-lap B-4 feature before Joe Flowers, the defending division champion from Manteca, made the pass to take over the top spot. Flowers spent the rest of the race fighting off his son-in-law Josh Cross, of Manteca, to pick up his third win of the season.
Lodi’s Brandon Jones continued his late season surge by taking a convincing wire-to-wire victory in the 25-lap Bomber main over Stockton’s Donnie Darter and Manteca’s Joe Reichmuth for his third win in 2021.
Jordan Lovelace, of Stockton, resumed his total domination in the B-4 Juniors division by cruising to his ninth win of the season
Racing returns to the 99 Speedway on Saturday, Oct. 9, with a regular season program featuring the Stockton Late Models, Bombers, Legends of the Pacific, B-4s and B-4 Juniors. The season will conclude with a “double points” night on Saturday, Oct. 23, where five 2021 division champions will be crowned.
